Being
a parent today seems there is not enough time in the day or week to do
everything we want or need to do. Do you know that there is only 940
Saturdays from the birth of your child to the time they leave for college? That
may sound like a lot but it isn’t when you start factoring in Saturday
activities as they grow up. So I ask: How can a parent make it a point to spend time with their
children to build open lines of communication with them so they will feel
comfortable as they grow older and older to still talk with you? Creating this bond
of open communication with your child will help when it comes to talking to
them about cell phone safety.
Here are some tips on how to make the most of the
time your children:
1. Take
a walk: When you need to take your children somewhere close, instead of getting
in the car, walk. This will help slow the pace and create a time for open
communications.2. Turn off the electronics in the car: So you don’t have time to walk, well at least when you are in the car make the most of the time with your child. Put the cell phones on silence and turn off the DVDs, IPods, etc, etc. You will be amazed at what type of conversations will come about.
3. Put it on your schedule: If you are the type of a person who needs to have a schedule for everything, then make an appointment with your child. It can be for 60 minutes a week just to sit down and join in on their activity.
