When your tween gets
a cell phone, you will notice how much time is spent text messaging. Parents
should talk to their child about keeping text messages short and to-the-point.
If you start to notice the "conversation" goes on for more than a few
minutes, encourage your tween to pick-up the phone and continue the
conversation that way. This is also a good lesson for adults too. Text messages are great for a quick
“hi,” “I’ll see you in a minute,” or even “what page is our math homework,” but
when people are asking for a favor or need to work out detailed plans, the best
method is a good phone conversation.
