Is your child ready for a phone?

Deciding if your child should have a cell phone? Are they mature, responsible and use common sense on a daily basis? Buying your child a cell phone should not be an easy decision. Knowing that most cell phones allow your child to access the internet, these phones known as “smartphones”, brings a new level of education for yourself and child. Parents need to be aware if their child has a smartphone, they will be able to browse the internet. Knowing this, parents need to set ground rules for the safety of their child. It can start with three simple statements:
  1. Nothing on the internet is private.
  2. People online are not always who they say they are.
  3. People are not always truthful online. Having an open discussion with your child about these three basic rules can help pave the way to staying safe online with a smartphone.
