House Bill 1562

Last week the House Bill 1562 was up for vote. House Bill 1562 would make it a crime for a minor to electronically send or receive a sexually explicit photo, even of himself or herself.

It states: “No minor shall knowingly and voluntarily use a computer or telecommunication device to transmit an indecent visual depiction of himself or herself to another person.” Also: “No minor shall knowingly possess an indecent visual depiction that was transmitted in violation of subparagraph (a) by another minor.”

This House Bill is stirring controversy because some think it is over the top and other state it should be tougher. I know with the popularity of cell phones, chat rooms and social networking, sexting is becoming more and more common among minors.
