When Parents Encounter Cyber-bullying

It is always sad when tweens only become aware of the hazards that are on internet when something terrible happens to someone they know whether it is a friend, relative or school mate.
It is fundamental that parents continue to educate themselves and their children on the issue of cyber- bullying.  Tweens should know to come to their parents when any rude, misappropriate texts are sent or shared between peers. Parents should not hesitate to notify the police if they know of anyone who has fallen victim to cell phone or cyber-bullying.  It doesn’t help to engage in a battle with the person because this only gives the person the attention they are wanting and this may also make the situation worse. The best way to deal with any type of cyber-bullying is to keep logs of the messages and pictures and give these to the proper authorities, who know how to handle the situation.
